Every weapon belongs to a weapon group.
- Small blade includes piercing blades. They are light or one-handed and can all be used with the "dexterous fighting" special skill.
- Heavy blade includes slashing blades.
- Chain includes weapons that use any length of chain. These may be hafted, such as a flail, or use a full chain like the chain-and-dagger. They are usually good at tripping or disarming an opponent.
- Axes includes slashing weapons with a short haft.
- Poleaxe includes slashing weapons with a long haft.
- Spear includes piercing weapons with a haft of any length.
- Hammer includes hafted weapons with a swung impact point. This may be bludeoning (hammers) or piercing (picks)
- Bludeon includes weapons with broad bludgeoning impact.
- Thrown includes weapons that are designed to be thrown at range and are not efficient in melee.
- Bow includes ranged, strung weapons that use arrows for ammunition.
- Crossbow includes ranged, mechanical weapons that use bolts for ammunition.
- Natural does not include any manafactured weapons; it represents a characters skill with it's natural weapons.
- Magic ray does not include any manafactured weapons; it represents ranged ability with some magic spells.
Each individual weapon has a level of skill required to use it proficiently.
- Basic weapons require no training; are club, greatclub and quarterstaff.
- Simple weapons include the dagger, light and heavy mace, morning star, dart and light crossbow.
- Trained weapons include the throwing axe, knife, fauchard, shortspear, longspear, trident, light hammer, warmace and shortbow.
- Martial weapons include the handaxe, battleaxe, waraxe, greataxe, short sword, rapier, scimitar, falchion, longsword, bastard sword, flail, halberd, spear, warhammer, maul, heavy pick, javelin, throwing iron and heavy crossbow.
- Advanced weapons include the longbow, greatsword, heavy flail, glaive, guisarme and ranseur.
- Elite weapons include the double axe, lightblade, thinblade, double sword, double scimitar, double flail, double hammer, double pick, war pick and chakram.
- Exotic weapons include the greatbow, greatspear and heavy poleaxe.
Weapons are either light, one-handed, two-handed or one-and-a-half handed.
The one-and-a-half hand weapons are the bastard sword, waraxe, warmace and maul. They are normally used two-handed, at the skill level listed above. They can also be used in one hand (using the "shift" or "hand" command), in which case they require a higher level of skill to be used proficiently.
Although not in the "thrown" weapon group, the following weapons can also be thrown if the player switches to a ranged stance; knife, club, light hammer, throwing axe, shortspear, spear, trident and greatspear.
