This page will try to get you oriented with how to join the group, how the group functions, and how to play.
NBW is a PBEM (Play By E-Mail) RPG. If you don't have a Yahoo ID, sign up for one here:
Sign Up.You also need an email address to register. You are not required to use your email account to play, but it is recommended that you use email to play instead of the group site.
More specifically, I personally suggest you consider getting a
Gmail account. It will group all topics together in a color-coded forum-style message list, making your posts easily searchable and organizable. -Kraftlos

More Information about GmailYou don't have to use Gmail, you can use any other email provider as long as you can remember to check it! (or you can just get all your messages on the group site, but this is really inefficient)
Go to the group site and click on the blue "Join this group!" button in the top right-hand corner of the page.If you have a YahooID sign into it now, or if you don't, go ahead and sign up for one now. (if you're already signed into yahoo then disregard this message)
Secondly you'll be greeted with an info screen. I recommend adding your email address to the list here. You can leave the comment to the owner blank or send them a message.
Please please choose individual emails. Daily digest sounds really convenient, but it's a real hassle and you will end up changing it later. The other two options really aren't any good either, since I don't think we ever send out special notices.
Don't be alarmed when your inbox begins to fill with messages. This is normal!
Some groups require some sort of initiation such as approval of characters by a moderator or something like that. At NBW we're much more laid back. I believe at one point we did have a rule like that, but now it is perfectly acceptable to create a character and start playing.
We trust you wont make your character ridiculously powerful, mainly because that would be no fun. Basically the Admins will have final say as to whether your character is behaving fairly, but as it is we just hope that you respect everyone else who's playing.
1. No Moding! Moding (aka god-moding) is where you write an action for another person's character or property. You can only post for yourself and your property.
Examples:
If you are in combat with another bot, you cannot say something like "He fires three shots, hitting XBot in the chest and breaking off one of his wings." What you say is "He fires three shots at XBot with his pistol, aiming for the chest."
If you are inside a base, it is likely someone or several people control that base. Don't say "My character blows down the door and forces his way into the room." You CAN say "My character attempts to blow down the door by placing explosives outside."
Be realistic. Your character should have some reason to have explosives on him, make sure its listed in the character's bio that he has them or make sure you post earlier explaining where it came from. If you want to do a more elaborate plot, it would be wise to contact the owners of that property.
2. Timing You must give people enough time to respond. You also need to respond in a timely manner.
- Don't expect more than a few exchanges a day, main plots have been known to last for months. Everyone likes action though, so you probably wont be bored.
- It has generally been NBW's policy that if you fail to post after a few days that the plot will move on without your character. If you are going to be away for a period of time, let people know and consider letting someone handle the characters that are involved in plot until you return. If you disappear without notice, your character might be taken over until you return (subject to moderator and group approval).
All messages should be sent to nbwrpg@yahoogroups.com. Keep in mind that you can only do this from the email account you have registered with the group.
When your post is sent to this address, it is sent to everyone in the group and posted to the main site within a few minutes. (YahooGroups can be a little slow)
A typical post should contain:
1. Reactions to attacks/dialog/other actions by other characters on your's or in your general vicinity.
2. Your character doing something
